چکیده
Susceptibility to spinosad (Success®/Tracer®) of beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua) from the southern U.S.A. and Southeast Asia was determined through exposure of third instar larvae to dipped cotton leaves. LC50 values of field populations ranged from 0.6 to 14 μg spinosad/ml. Field populations were 3.0 to 70-fold less susceptible to spinosad than was a susceptible reference population. The least susceptible population was collected from Thailand. We hypothesized that this population was resistant to spinosad because: (1) it was significantly less susceptible to spinosad than all other populations evaluated and than any other reports in the literature; (2) it regained susceptibility while in culture; (3) it was collected from a region of very intensive insecticide use and severe insect resistance problems; and (4) it exhibited significant survivorship on field-treated cabbage leaves. Piperonyl butoxide (PBO), diethyl maleate (DEM), and S,S,S tributyl-phosphorothiolate (DEF) failed to synergize spinosad in this resistant Thailand population, and PBO failed to do so in the least susceptible domestic population evaluated, the Parker, AZ, field strain. However, the synergist and field residue studies were conducted using a Thailand population that had levels of resistance that declined while in laboratory culture.

The seasonal occurrence of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hübner), and the southern armyworm, Spodoptera eridania (Cramer), was monitored over a 2year period using International Pheromones, Ltd. Moth Traps baited with rubber septa impregnated with pheromone blends identified from conspecific females and also with pheromone emitted by live female beet armyworm moths. The pheromone blend...
متن کاملField and Laboratory Performance of Novel Insecticides against Armyworms (lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
Beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hübner), and fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), are occasional pests of cotton, Gossypium hirsutum (L.), and soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill. These insects can be difficult to control due to insecticide resistance and larval behavior on plants. The objectives of these studies were to determine the efficacy of selected insecticides against nat...
متن کاملManagement of the Beet Armyworm (lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in Cotton: Role of Natural Enemies
The beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hubner), has recently become a persistent and explosive pest of cotton in the southeastern United States. It is, however, attacked by a large and diverse complex of beneficial arthropods and pathogens that appear capable of maintaining beet armyworm populations below economically-damaging levels. Disruption of this complex contributes to outbreaks of S. exi...

Susceptibility to tebufenozide and methoxyfenozide of beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua) from the southern United States and Thailand was determined through exposure of first and third instar larvae to dipped cotton leaves. LC50 estimates of first instar larvae ranged from 0.377 to 32.7 micrograms of tebufenozide per milliliter and 0.034 to 11.5 micrograms of methoxyfenozide per milliliter. LC50...

The beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua, is one of the most important pests of sugar beet in Iran. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of water and nitrogen treatments of sugar beet planton developmental time and fecundity life table parameters of the pest. An experiment was carried out under laboratory conditions (25±2oC, 70±5% R.H. and 12L: 12D) on larvae reared...
